Only One Lot Available. An authoritarian military dictatorship ruled Chile for almost seventeen years, between 11 September 1973 and 11 March 1990. The dictatorship was established after the democratically elected socialist government of Salvador Allende was overthrown in a coup d'état backed by the United States on 11 September 1973. During this time, the country was ruled by a military junta headed by General Augusto Pinochet. The military used the breakdown of democracy and the economic crisis that took place during Allende's presidency to justify its seizure of power. The dictatorship presented its mission as a \"national reconstruction\". The coup was the result of multiple forces, including pressure from conservative groups, certain political parties, union strikes and other domestic unrest, as well as international factors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is an interesting lot of insignia from Chile during the Cold War. We have not seen this sort of insignia before, so we are unsure whether these pieces are original or reproduction. They are being sold “as-is”. Excellent unissued condition.\u003cbr\u003e- Likely Argentinian Naval Artillery badge with backings.\u003cbr\u003e- Argentinian patch with coat of arms and 1878-1881 at bottom. 2 ⅞ x 3 ⅞”.\u003cbr\u003e- Chilean 11th Infantry patch “La Patria alos Valeross… de 1814”. 2 ⅝ x 2 ⅞”.\u003cbr\u003e- Chilean badge awarded to Victors of Chacabuco (February 12, 1817).
