The history of Bulgaria during World War II encompasses an initial period of neutrality until 1 March 1941, a period of alliance with the Axis Powers until 8 September 1944, and a period of alignment with the Allies in the final year of the war. Bulgarian military forces occupied with German consent parts of the Kingdoms of Greece and Yugoslavia which Bulgarian irredentism claimed on the basis of the 1878 Treaty of San Stefano. Bulgaria resisted Axis pressure to join the war against the Soviet Union, which began on 22 June 1941, but did declare war on Britain and the United States on 13 December 1941. The Red Army entered Bulgaria on 8 September 1944; Bulgaria declared war on Germany the next day.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a tremendous lot of Bulgarian field gear used during World War II, including:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBulgarian “tornister” knapsack. This knapsack is very similar in design to the German tornister, with the primary difference being the color of material. This one is in great shape with a unit marking on the back. The interior is stamped \u003cstrong\u003e020-MOH\u003c\/strong\u003e. Leather straps are in good shape.\u003cbr\u003eBulgarian mess kit, handle still attached. Great shape.\u003cbr\u003eRussian WWI Shovel reused by Finland with SA stamp and repainted and reshafted for use by Bulgaria. Two holes stamped to carry on a belt. This thing has SOME history!\u003cbr\u003eTwo double ammunition pouches which are very similar to Austrian Mannlicher M1895 pouches. Both in great shape with straps retained.\u003cbr\u003eOne brown single ammo pouch, straps retained.\u003cbr\u003eBulgarian overseas cap with original sweatband, size \u003cstrong\u003e59 \u003c\/strong\u003estamped inside.\u003cbr\u003eThree different Bulgarian canteens, two with cover and two with cup. One is painted dark green.
