This is a very interesting identified First World War grouping attributed to \u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003ePrivate William Frederick Pratt of the 13th (County of London) Battalion\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e, London Regiment, better known as Princess Louise’s Kensingtons. The group consists of Pratt’s named British War Medal and Victory Medal together with a heavily flattened soft khaki trench service cap attributed to him.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe trench cap has an oilcloth lining but the sweatband is now absent. There is no cap badge, likely to make it easier to fold and carry like this, and the leather chinstrap is held in by two general service buttons. There are correctly two grommets to each side, and the oilcloth has held up alright despite the sweatband missing. There are no markings in the cap.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe medals include the WWI Victory Medal and War Medal, both rim-engraved \u003cb\u003e497194 PTE. W.F. PRATT. 13 LOND. R. \u003c\/b\u003eThe medals have attached brooches with associated ribbons. From his medal card, we can see that after the war Pratt moved to America, settling in Nutley, New Jersey, which is why his medals have American style pins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 13th London Regiment was formally the 13th (County of London) Battalion, The London Regiment (Princess Louise’s Kensington) and was a Territorial Force infantry battalion headquartered at Iverna Gardens, Kensington. The unit traced its origins through the Kensington volunteer movement and entered the Territorial Force as the 13th London Regiment in 1908.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuring World War I the regiment expanded into multiple battalions. The 1\/13th Battalion mobilized in August 1914 and landed at Le Havre on November 4, 1914. After serving under several formations, it joined 168th Brigade, 56th (1st London) Division in February 1916 and subsequently fought through major campaigns on the Western Front, including the Somme, Arras, Ypres, Cambrai, and the fighting of 1918.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe combination of the \u003cb\u003ematching British War and Victory Medals, complete 497194 Pte.
