This is an extremely scarce British Tower-marked Sappers and Miners Short Musket, issued for home use, measuring 42 1/2 inches in overall length. It is very similar to the EIC P1942 "Model E" Sappers & Miners short musket, except that it is about 6 inches shorter. Fitted with a 27" barrel, this musket has all brass mounts; butt plate, no throat pipe, two ramrod pipes and nose cap. The front of the musket features a "Hanovarian Pattern" catch, which should work with the same "Pattern E" type Sappers & Miners sword bayonets.

The lock is correctly marked CROWN / V - R, for Queen Victoria, with TOWER 1842 underneath. There is even a rack number of C / 1903 on the butt plate tang.

The musket presents very well, and the lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full.
