Original British Victorian Royal Navy Pewter Quart Tankard marked NORTHUMBERLAND - c.1870
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a heavy very large Pewter One Quart Tankard marked by the well known Victorian maker JAMES YATES, bearing proofs and maker's markings. Across the front face, on the side away from the handle, it is engraved in large letters with NORTHUMBERLAND in a scroll laid over a large FOULED ANCHOR.
H.M.S. NORTHUMBERLAND was a MINATOUR Class Armored Frigate of 400' launched on April 17th 1866. Her principal armament was FOUR X 9" Guns, TWENTY TWO 8" Guns and Two 7" Guns. She required a crew of 705 men and was for a period, the Flag Ship of Vice Admiral Sir William Hewett John Baird, in Command of the Channel Squadron. She was decommissioned in 1898.
