Original British Colonial Issue Brass Mounted P-1856 Yataghan Sword Bayonet for Enfield 2-Band with Scabbard

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Available. This is a very nice British P-1856 Yataghan Saber bayonet, made to fit the "2-Band" P-1853 Enfield and P-1864 Snider short rifles and artillery carbines. While the full length rifle versions of these service weapons used socket bayonets, this was impractical for the short rifles, so they were fitted with bayonet lugs on the right side of the barrels. With the checkered grips, they were also very useful as a sidearm, and the design was used throughout Europe.

These were usually made with all iron mountings, but for Colonial issue brass was often used, as it was more resistant to oxidation. They were better suited to hold up during long service overseas, as Colonial issue weapons were not replaced nearly as often. This example is still in very good condition, and is maker marked on the blade with HARVEY.

There is definitely some wear to the bayonet, with areas of staining and oxidation on the blade, however it still presents very well, with a lovely patina of age. The brass fitted leather scabbard is also in very good shape, without any major splits or damage. The finish on the leather is still mostly there, and the brass has aged to a nice golden color.

A very good example of a Colonial Issue P-1856 Yataghan bayonet, read to display!
