In 1835 the firm was named \"John Barnett \u0026amp; Sons\" and from 1875 until 1900 \"Edward Barnett \u0026amp; Sons\" An English gun making dynasty that enjoyed many government contracts as well as from the East India Company and the Hudson's Bay Company.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe just over 29 1\/2\" Barrel retains does not have any rear sight, as is correct. It bears the correct London Proofhouse \u003cstrong\u003eCROWN \/ GP\u003c\/strong\u003e \"Gunmakers\" black powder proof and \u003cstrong\u003eCROWN \/ V\u003c\/strong\u003e viewed marks, with another proof mark between that we do not recognize. This is most likely from the maker of the barrel. The lock does not have any proof or inspection marks. It functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOverall the carbine is in very good condition, with a lovely patina of age. The stock is solid, with no major damage or repairs, and old finish now worn away in places.
