This is what we call a “sleeper\" recently found at a country estate sale. The pattern 1856 saber bayonet features a 22.5\" yataghan style blade. A yataghan was a popular blade for use with muzzle-loading muskets as the tip sweeps away from the musket's muzzle allowing little hindrance when loading the weapon. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGrips are checked leather and features steel mounts on both the bayonet and scabbard.
