Original British Officer's Percussion Pistol with Octagonal Barrel marked Enfield 1863 - V.R. Marked

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is most unusual and in exceptional condition. Beautifully made, almost certainly, for at an Officer's request, this pistol has an octagonal 8" smooth bore barrel fitted with a swivel captured ramrod, allowing re-loading whilst on horseback. All brass mounts with CROWN over V. R. together with ENFIELD / 1863 all upon the lock plate.

Very possibly intended for service in INDIA, as by this time "rifled" weapons were banned from Native use as a result of the Sepoy Rebellion (THE INDIAN MUTINY) of 1857-1859. This specimen was probably never issued, and remained in England either by chance or retained as a manufacture's sample at the Enfield Arsenal in North London.

Just splendid, very rare and ready to display!
