The Lock Plate is marked \u003cstrong\u003e(CROWN) \/ G.R.\u003c\/strong\u003e under the pan, with \u003cstrong\u003eTOWER\u003c\/strong\u003e across the tail, indicating production at the Tower armory for military use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pistol is a standard full stocked flintlock pistol and has all brass mounts. The top of the barrel is marked to the 23rd Regiment of Light Dragoons:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ccenter\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eXXIII REG'T L-Ds\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/center\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ramrod is brass mounted walnut and not of the 'swivel\" type later introduced as the New Land Pattern, which was based on East India Company innovations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 23rd Light Dragoons was a cavalry regiment of the British Army which existed several times, initially raised by Sir John Burgoyne or SARITOGA fame in 1781. This pistol would have been from their Third Incarnation. Their battle honors were: Talavera, Peninsula, Egypt, and Waterloo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis third instance of the regiment was formed on 10 March 1803 by re-numbering the 26th Light Dragoons, and served in Spain, Egypt and at Waterloo.  It saw extensive service in Spain, Egypt and at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
