Original British Georgian Pewter Naval Pint Tankard marked H.M.S. Greyhound - Later an Inn in Wembley
Original Item: One of a Kind. This is definitely an interesting find! It is certainly a Royal Navy Pewter ONE PINT Beer Mug named to a Man-o-War together with an engraved image of the War Ship H.M.S. GREYHOUND. It is marked on near the lip by the handle with PINT over an Anchor next to a Crown over G.R. proof and Broad Arrow. It appears that it was later used at an INN in the London village of Wembley giving the publican's name in script, along with the name and location of the inn:
Most likely the Landlord G.EMBTON was a retired Ship's crew member, who taking his Prize Money from the Royal Navy opened an Inn outside London. Dating from before 1830, the year King George the Fourth died, this may well have even been late 18th century. Measures 4 1/2 inches tall approximately 4 inches across.
Absolutely original and ready to display!
