Original Item: Only One Available. Dating from the later 18th or early 19th century, this is very nice British Bronze cannon tube with a beautiful deep patina. The tube itself features a fluted muzzle, 5 bands and cascabel. The tubes a 2" bore meaning it fired a one pound cannon ball, (One pound Cannon are referred to as "FALCONETS"), the barrel measures 33" overall and is 7 5/8" wide at the trunnions and is of classic proportions. The tube has a clear bore and touch hole and doesn't look to have been used much in service. This was most certainly earlier would have been mounted as a Naval swivel gun or on a wooden ship's mount. The only markings on the tube are Negari from where it was recovered but based on the metallurgy, casting technique and pattern of the tube we firmly believe it to be of British origin having arrived in Asia with the British East India Company in the early 19th century.
The tube comes complete with an original British riveted iron cut-out carriage with new made elevation mechanism. The carriage has been nice restored with correct paint and all original parts. One side has a brass plaque which is engraved:
7 P.R R. M.L. GUN
2000 LBS R. EG No.
W/D I.R.C.D.
WT CARRIGE 206. LBS
WHEELS 144.
TOTAL 350.
Complete with original iron rimmed wood spoke (12 spokes) wheels which are approximately 38" in diameter and original brass hubs. Carriage measures 54" in overall length, 10" wide with a 35" axle.
When fully assembled the carriage and gun are approximately 67" in overall length, 36' tall and 36" wide.
