Here is a charming, all steel, side by side double barrel Canon barrel pocket pistol intended for personal protection against the highwaymen and ruffians of the period. Made in Liege which is now in Belgium, then it was controlled either by France or the Spanish Netherlands. The maker is Guillaume Devilliers, who was part of a great Gun Making dynasty that existed for nearly 200 years. The right side is marked G. DEVILLIERS and the left with A LIEGE.
Bonnie Prince Charlie was said to have carried an all steel double barrel pocket pistol while he fled from King George's Red Coats after he Battle of Culloden in 1746.
Nicely engraved overall with two triggers, one for each barrel. Measures 5 1/2" in overall length with screw off 1 1/4" cannon barrels. Action functions nicely, and both sides hold half and full cock correctly.
Well marked in remarkably good condition ready to display.
