One-of-a-Kind. This is a phenomenal example of an American Revolutionary War Era Naval “Figure-of-Eight” Cutlass in original untouched condition. The cutlass is designed in the classic Figure-of-Eight fashion, with the entire cutlass having a similar peppery oxidation. The cutlass has suffered the salt air of the oceans and is typically rusted (stabilized) and pitted. This example has a lovely brass diamond attached to the bowl guard, stamped XXIV, the Roman Numeral for 24, which we believe to denote a rack number.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 20⅞” blade is straight without any serious deviation. It is of the standard cutlass design for the period, and is 1⅝” wide at the ricasso. The hilt is designed in the style of late 18th century cutlasses with an iron grip. This was not replaced with a ribbed grip until the 1804 model.
