This is a lovely OTTOMAN flintlock holster pistol made to follow European lines, clearly having belonged to someone of significance being so well adorned. It has an ornately carved stock with, showing a very high level of artistry. It is fully silver mounted, with a fantastic long eared butt cap, decorative side plate, trigger guard, and magnificent engraved silver cladding around the muzzle end of the pistol. The 13 3/4" barrel has a bore of about 0.64", and the 4 inches nearest the breech have some lovely engraved designs and brass inlay work.

What really sets this example apart is the fantastic carved stock, which has fantastic designs on the underside of the fore stock and all around the grip area. There are also the remains of silver wire inlay work around the grip, and it looks like there was an escutcheon on the back of the grip, which is now absent, lost to time. Often referred to as a Mediterranean Pirate's Flintlock Pistol this example is way above that. The silver butt cap has the usual long ears, and the trigger guard goes almost all the way to the butt cap. The pistol measures 21" in overall length, on the longer side of what we usually see, probably for a taller person

Copying the western Style, the pistol displays a "faux" ramrod which is not intended for use, in this case part of the silver cladding around the muzzle end of the pistol. The actual ramrod was usually carried on a leather thong carried around the neck, so that it could not be dropped during reloading at sea or on horseback.

The lock features a swan neck cock, and it is fully functional, holding correctly at half cock and firing at full. The main spring is very strong, so it does take some effort to cock it. There are some markings on the lock plate, but we do not know if they are actual writing, or just meant to look like it. There are also some touch marks on the left side of the barrel near the breech, which could possibly be researched. Condition overall is very good, with a lovely matured patina overall. The stock has had some damage and repairs to the wrist area, and there is also wood missing along the wood line on both sides towards the rear of the barrel.

Dating probably from the early 1800's, a lovely Ottoman flintlock pistol, ready to display!

Specifications:

Year of Manufacture: Circa 1790-1820
Caliber: .64" pistol
Ammunition Type: Lead Ball & Powder
Overall Length: 21 inches
Barrel Length: 13 3/4 inches
Action: Flintlock Side Action
Feed System: Muzzle-Loaded

NOTE: International orders of antique firearms MUST be shipped using UPS WW Services (courier).
