Original 19th Century Ottoman Flintlock Horse Pistol with Embossed Brass Clad Barrel - Circa 1800

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely OTTOMAN flintlock horse pistol made to follow European lines, with a lovely wood stock and embossed and decorated iron fittings. It looks like at some time after manufacture it was further decorated, with wonderful embossed sheet brass cladding, entirely covering the last 7 inches of the gun.

The butt cap has the usual long ears, and the trigger guard goes almost all the way to the butt cap. At one time there was an escutcheon on the back of the grip, but it is now missing. There also looks to be some repairs to the stock in that area. The engraved lock is nicely decorated with floral designs, including the swan neck cock. The pistol measures 20" in over all length, and the barrel itself, also decorated, measures 13".

Copying the western Style, the pistol displays a "faux" ramrod which is not intended for use, in this case as part of the embossed brass cladding. The actual ramrod was usually carried on a leather thong carried around the neck, so that it could not be dropped during reloading on horseback.

In fine working order and ready to display!
