High End Replica German WWII Atwood Production 2nd Model Naval Dagger by Paul Weyersberg

High End Replica Item: Only One Available. Major Jim Atwood was one of the pioneers of Third Reich dagger collecting. During the 1950's while stationed in Germany he would travel to the blade making region of Solingen buying up daggers and surplus unused stocks of dagger parts. From these parts he constructed many daggers. Some were conventional "parts daggers" but others were made up with the addition of newly made parts. Jim Atwood was a true pioneer in the hobby of Third Reich Dagger collecting. No true reference book was available when he wrote his in 1962. It was the only reference at the time where information concerning the origin of the daggers and the companies that manufactured them could be found. The book also identified some of the many daggers types for the first time.
This particular example of a 2nd Model Naval Dagger with Lightning Bolt Scabbard by Paul Weyersberg of Solingen is an original Atwood production and is comprised of mostly post war produced parts. The dagger itself is really very convincing and will certainly fool an untrained eye.
The blade on this Atwood replica is marked by Paul Weyersberg of Solingen, the legendary "City of Blades" in western Germany. There is unfortunately no way to tell if it is wartime or post war production, though we assume it is post war. The reverse ricasso is etched with PAUL WEYERSBERG & Co. / SOLINGEN in double ovals around the firms trademark "Sword-and-Wreath" logo, which was the only marking they used during the Third Reich era. This company was one of many in Solingen owned by members of the Weyersberg family. The company survived the war, but ceased production in 1955. Condition of the dagger is very good, with a lot of the original gilded finish present on the fittings and scabbard. The blade looks to be nickel-plated and etched. Really a great example of an Atwood replica. Ready to fill a spot in your collecti0n!
