Austrian German WWII Feldgendarmerie Alpine Rucksack
Original Item: We have never seen these before. The Feldgendarmerie (English: Field Gendarmerie) were the military police units of the armies of the German Empire (including the Wehrmacht) from the mid 19th Century until the conclusion of World War II. Part of the standard issued equipment for the Alpine Feldgendarmerie was a large backpack. Each is constructed of duck canvas with beautiful brown leather bottom and straps long enough to allow for a bedroll, heavily stitched with correct wartime aluminum grommets and steel buckles, padded shoulder straps again of quality brown leather one with conventional buckle the other with a quick release snap as most German WW2 packs of the period. Most marked "Gerndarmerie Eigentum" ("Military Police Property") to the interior of flap together with various other unidentifiable ink stampings. Offered in very good used condition. Imported to the USA in the 1940's these were just after WWII as evidenced by the then required old paper sticker, still attached, stating "MADE IN AUSTRIA". Very scarce and fresh to the market, markings may vary slightly. Approximate Specifications-20 x15 x 9.
