Original WWII British MkI Dispatch Rider Helmet by Canadian Motor Lamp Co. dated 1944 - Size 7 1/4

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent condition original WWII British MK I Dispatch Rider helmet, manufactured in Canada. Shell has original paint with no major dents or dings that we can see, just light wear from use and storage.  The leather liner and chinstrap assembly are soft and supple, with light wear to the interior and the exterior finish. It does not look to have been worn much.

The rear of the shell is marked C.L. / C. S 1944, indicating manufacture by Canadian Motor Lamp Co. of Windsor, who also produced Brodie helmets from 1940 - 1943.

The leather liner is nicely maker marked BS inside a circle, and dated 44, and is marked with size 7 1/4 inside a shield. BS is the marking for Backstay Standard and Co. of Ontario, Canada. The white felt era pads are still present and complete, and the rubber padding is still quite soft.

The MkII paratrooper helmet shell was also used for dispatch riders during and after World War II. It was introduced in 1942 and features a front pad and leader neck flap that forms a double chinstrap. Many dispatch rider helmets were converted post war to paratrooper helmets, but this one is still in the original configuration.

This is an excellent example of the classic WWII Canadian Dispatch Rider helmet that will make a great addition to any collection.
