Original Item: Only One Available. Now this is an absolutely gorgeous commemorative “biscuit” tin! Manufacture of origin is unknown due to the lack of markings, but we believe this tin to have been produced in the Netherlands at the close of the war.

The top of the lid is marked with the flag of the Netherlands along with their Coat of Arms, making us believe this to be the origin and because of the Germanic spelling of the countries present on the tin.

This 9.5" tall, 6.25" in diameter, lithographed tin container was widely produced to mark the end of World War II. It depicts FDR, Churchill, Stalin and Chiang Kai Shek on the front, within a wreath, surrounded by flags of their respective countries, dated 1939-1945. The lid depicts the Netherlands national flag. There is minor rust; otherwise, in outstanding condition with almost all of the original colors still vibrant and lovely.

Victory in Europe Day
Victory in Europe Day is the day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces on Tuesday, 8 May 1945. The former Soviet countries, namely Russia, celebrate on 9 May, marking the end of World War II in Europe. Several countries observe public holidays on the day each year, also called Victory Over Fascism Day, Liberation Day or Victory Day. In the UK it is often abbreviated to VE Day, or V-E Day in the US, a term which existed as early as September 1944, in anticipation of victory.

Several former Soviet bloc countries including Russia and Belarus, as well as some former Yugoslav countries like Serbia, celebrate on 9 May. The end of all combat actions was specified at 23:01 Central European Time, which was already 9 May in eastern Europe. Israel also marks VE Day on 9 May, as a result of the large number of immigrants from the former Soviet bloc, but it is not a public holiday.
