Original Items: Only One lot of 2 Available. Guns, tanks, and bombs were the principal weapons of World War II, but there were other, more subtle forms of warfare as well. Words, posters, and films waged a constant battle for the hearts and minds of the American citizenry just as surely as military weapons engaged the enemy. Persuading the American public became a wartime industry, almost as important as the manufacturing of bullets and planes. The Government launched an aggressive propaganda campaign with clearly articulated goals and strategies to galvanize public support, and it recruited some of the nation's foremost intellectuals, artists, and filmmakers to wage the war on that front.

The Government tried to identify the most effective poster style. One government commissioned study concluded that the best posters were those that made a direct, emotional appeal and presented realistic pictures in photographic detail. The study found that symbolic or humorous posters attracted less attention, made a less favorable impression, and did not inspire enthusiasm. Nevertheless, many symbolic and humorous posters were judged to be outstanding in national poster competitions during the war.

The Posters in this Lot:
- 60” x 10” “Join the club” War Savings Stamps Poster Banner: The poster is banner style with a stars and stripes theme in red, white and blue colors; there are also black and white photos of a soldier holding up the “V For Victory” sign and a sailor smiling. The poster reads, "Join the Club" in large yellow text, followed by "A Stamp a Day for the Man Who's Away" in black text. The poster was released by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1943.

- 28” x 20” War Bonds Time Table Poster: The poster shows the War Bonds interest accumulated table. It shows what your weekly savings would be and money accumulated in 1 year, 5 years and 10 years.

Both items are in lovely condition with vivid colors. The Time Table has some minor staining present and both have wear to the edges.
