Original U.S. WWII Custom Theater Made Fighting Knife with Tooled Leather Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful U.S. WWII "Theater Made" fighting knife, 13 1/8 inches in length, with an 8 inch steel spear point blade. These knives were made by the armorers and engineers, usually in the Pacific theater. The large capital ships needed to have skilled fabricators on board to make repairs and modifications to weapons and gear. Usually the blades were made from existing weapons or from steel components, and the hilts were cast from metals such as aluminum or zinc.

The handle of this knife looks to be made of wood or bakelite, with brass and aluimnum washers interspersed. It has an oval shaped aluminum cross guard, and a large octagonal "skull crusher" pommel. The knife is in good shape, though the blade has definitely suffered rust damage, which we have left intact. Long term storage in a leather scabbard is a common cause of this.

The knife comes with a very impressive tooled leather scabbard with what we assume is a leg tie down. It looks to have been adapted from something else, as faint maker markings can be seen on the back of the leg tie down. This may have possibly been a belt or other leather item like horse tack, adapted into a very nice leather sheath, which we assume goes over the belt and fastens around the leg. There is also a very nice securing strap.

Definitely an interesting piece of WWII Militaria. Ready to research and display!
