Original Japanese WWII Untouched Imperial Japanese Army Leather Medical Satchel With Contents as Found by US Serviceman - 13 Plus Items

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot Available. Both war and medicine alter the human body, but in two different ways; war uses violence to harm and kill, while medicine strives to save and maintain the body. Despite this essential disparity, the two fields have been intimately connected and mutually contributive since early in history. This connection reached new heights during the “Modern era,” as war expanded and became increasingly medicalized.

This satchel comes complete with contents “untouched” and “as found” by the US Marine or Soldier who found it during their tour in the Pacific Theatre. The contents range from medical equipment down to original cigarettes with a box full of matches and late war wooden ID tags.

The Items In This Lot:
- Leather Satchel: The satchel retains all original Kanji stamping into the leather on the underside of the top flap. On the outside top, a faded “red cross” insignia can be found which appears to have been done by hand. The bag appears to be complete and is without any extensive damage.

The following items is what was found inside of the satchel:
- Late War Wooden ID Tags: There are a total of 4 what we believe to be late war wooden ID tags. They are in good condition and still retain their original markings. Great research opportunity!

- Driver’s License: This is a lovely example of a pre war issue driver’s license booklet. It is in wonderful condition with very clear writing and a wonderful picture of the owner! Another wonderful research opportunity, gives the literal name and face to this grouping.

- First Aid Book: This is a great pocket sized guide on first aid treatment as well as trauma treatment. This would have been vital in a field medics bag.

- x2 Cloth Bags: These are small woven and stitched bags. We believe these to have held cigarettes, matches and other small personal items.

- Matchbox With Japanese Propaganda: During the war the Japanese flooded Shanghai with anti-American and anti-British propaganda, including this image from a matchbox cover. It depicts Japanese planes flying in formation over the U.S. and British flags, with the Japanese flag rising in triumph. Shanghai, China, between 1943 and 1945. The image is unfortunately incomplete.

- Cigarette Box With x3 Cigarettes: The box is faded but a design can still be seen of a rising sun with clouds. Inside you will find 3 cigarettes still in the original wax paper. We shouldn’t have to say this but this is purely a novelty item, do not try and smoke them.

- Hachimaki Headband: Typical headband worn by factory workers. We believe this one belonged to a worked at a munitions factory. Great translation and research project.

- Medic Arm Insignia: This would be worn as an armband but does but have the wrap around length. It appears as if this would have been used more as a patch or stitched to a uniform.

- Medic Bag/Pouch: This doesn’t appear to have seen much service use. All markings are still present and visible as with the small red cross square with a white background. This seems to be a “grab and go” type of pouch and was not worn, as there is no method to actually wear it or attach it.

- 50cc Injection Device Case With Contents: This case was repurposed as a field instrument carrier and now contains 12 surgical instruments. There are various clamps, shears, boil lance, tweezers and a broken mercury thermometer (no mercury).

This is an incredible discovery with a lovely assortment of Japanese medic related items! This is a wonderful opportunity to add some great items to your collections. Comes more than ready to be translated, researched and displayed!
