Original U.S. Civil War Era .28cal Percussion Revolver by James Warner serial 6328 - circa 1860

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice .28 caliber percussion, 6 shot round cylinder, 8" barrel revolver, made by James Warner of Springfield Mass. From what we can tell, he started operations in 1857, and worked into the 1860s, associated mostly with the Springfield Arms Company. He was involved with several revolving rifle designs, as well as revolvers such as this one. This example is in very nice condition and fully functional, with a lovely patina.

The address marking is still mostly clear on the top of the cylinder frame:

JAMES WARNER SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A.

The cylinder itself has a WARNERS PATENT 1857 marking on the side, with serial number 6328 marked on the bottom of the grip frame. The design is somewhat unusual, with a small frame combined with a long barrel, giving a very interesting appearance.

The revolver is in good used condition, with a lovely gray patina over most of the metalwork. The two walnut grip scales do show some more advanced wear, with an overall rough appearance. The trigger looks to have been broken at some point, and then welded back together. Mechanically, the revolver cycles correctly, however the cylinder lock is worn, so on some chambers the cylinder can be advanced at full cock. The bore is mostly dark, showing rifling but also wear and oxidation.

A lovely .28cal percussion revolver from the Civil War Era, ready to add to the collection!
