Original U.S. Civil War Army Officer's M1860 Dress Parade Sword with Folding Guard and Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: One of a Kind. This is the standard Union Officer's Dress or Parade Sword Model 1860, issued during the Civil War. This example does not have any makers mark, which usually indicates that it was custom made for the officer.

It has a partially etched 30" blade with foliage designs, and has a Spread Eagle in the center of one side and U.S. on the other side. The sword measures 36 1/2" overall, and the hilt and "shell" Guard are of gilded bronze/brass and the grip is wire bound sharkskin. It also features a partial "fold-away" guard on one side, which would allow it to rest more comfortably on the left hip. A good amount of the original gilding is present, though the skin of the grip is worn.

It comes in its original decorated brass mounted steel scabbard, which has lost its original blued finish. Scabbard is straight, with no real dents that we can see.

Just out of the attic but read to display!
