Original U.S. 19th Century Starr 1864 Patent .32 Rimfire 4 Barrel Brass Frame Pepperbox Pistol

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is exactly what the Mississippi gamblers carried on the River Boats after the Civil War for self protection! A contemporary of the Sharp's four barrel pistol produced in the same era, the Starr which we offer here was fitted with a SIDE MOUNTED HAMMER. It is marked on the round action cover with:

STARR’S PAT.S
MAY 10 1864

The action revolves the firing pin housing and NOT the hammer head as on the Sharps version. Press button on the left hand side releases the four barrels to pivot forward for loading. The pistol features a circular button checkered steel push trigger. All in all an improvement over the Sharps edition.

Overall metal finish is a nice gray patina on the barrels, while the frame is a lovely matured brass color, worn from the original nickel plating. The flat bottom grip is very nice, with two lovely burl walnut scales, which are in great shape. The pistol barrel pivot works great, and locks back securely into place. The advance lever for the rotating firing pin works well on this example, but can be finicky at times.

A real favorite of River Boat Gamblers and for self defense. From America's Western history. In very nice presentable condition, ready to display!
