Original Italian WWII Fascist Trumpet Banner with Gold Bullion Embroidered Eagle & Fringe
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of an Italian Fascist Trumpet Banner, which would be hung on trumpets during ceremonial occasions. The banner is double sided, featuring a gold bullion Italian Fascist eagle, and the Hungarian horizontal colors of green, white, and red. It measures 11 1/2 inches square, not counting the fringe and 10 inch top ties.
The black side of the banner features the Gold Eagle, made of gilded aluminum bullion wire. It is in very good condition, with very little oxidation, and just a bit of fabric pulling on the back background. The Hungarian colors side has overall age toning, as well as some more significant stains on the lower right, possibly from the trumpet it was attached to.
There is gold bullion trim around the entire perimeter of the banner, with some lovely fringes on the bottom. There is light oxidation and patination on this, but it does not detract from the effect. The black and white attachment ribbons show light wear and patina throughout.
Very rare and ready to display!
We have had some suggestions that this is a "Hungarian" banner, however we are not aware of any link between the Eagle and the Fascist party of Hungary, which used the "arrow cross" insignia. Also the reverse of the banner is the correct Green on top for an Italian Banner. If it were a Hungarian Flag, it would be upside down, definitely not something you would see. Additionally, the identical eagle was used on some WWII Era Trumpet Banners that are definitely Italian.
