Original German WWII Ribbed Wood Handle Trench Fighting Knife with Customized Steel Boot Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Fitted with a single-edged clip-point blade, this is an original fighting knife, as used by the Germans in WWI and then again in WWII. In nice used condition, this knife has a ribbed wooden grip secured by two rivets. Grip scales are in good condition, with no cracks or major chips, and a nice color. As with most of the examples we have seen with grooved grips, the knife has an "S" shaped cross guard, while most smooth grip versions have a minimal cross guard.

The blade is full length on the bottom of the blade, while the top has a false edge. The blade has been used extensively, and has been shortened noticeably from the original length. It is possible that the tip broke off in service, or that it was just used that much. It's got that look of a well-worn blade that you only see from years of service use. Overall length is 9 3/8 inches with a 5 inch blade. No markings are present on the ricasso or crossguard, which is standard.

The knife comes in an genuine rolled steel scabbard, which looks to have originally been in the WWI configuration, with a leather belt loop/ retainer. However that leather strap apparently broke off, so it instead has been wrapped with fabric cord and a shoelace, which have been sewn together in spots. These were used to hold a leather strap in place, which replaced the original belt loop. Definitely an interesting field modification!

No visible markings but 100% original, a very example for display in any quality German edged weapons collection.
