Original Napoleonic Scottish Large Copper Regimental Beer Server Decorated with British Georgian Coins

Item Description

Original Item: One of a Kind. Well this is MOST impressive! We cannot see any evidence of it ever having been SILVER plated, but it's good enough that it should have been. The the bottom is tin, and the entire inside is tin lined, to not taint the beer or whatever other beverage was being served. The acids would eat into the copper, producing rather unsavory flavors.

This "EWER" stands almost 14" tall and is 7 1/2" at it's widest point at it's flared bottom. It is lidded with a hinged with a dome lid engraved on one side with a Coat of Arms displaying TWO Scottish Stags either side of a Shield displaying the diagonal cross of St. Andrew under what appear to be a Star. We have not beel able to identify the specific regiment or clan this would represent, making this an excellent research opportunity.

The body of this tall vessel supports a large "S" shaped handle and exotic thumb piece for lifting the hinged lid cover. On the opposite side is a formidable spout itself with a built in cover. On either side of the body there are British King George III huge ONE PENNY pieces, which were only made in 1797. Around the flared base of the vessel there are EIGHT other coins, all of HALF PENNY value and appear all to be dated in the 1750's making them all date to KING GEORGE II who died in 1760.

Now this is really nostalgic and could date to before the American War for Independence if perhaps the two ONE PENNY pieces were added at a later date. Company director Christian Cranmer was very tempted to take this home, but sadly his loving wife negated that possibility several years ago, so now we offer this, ready to display.
