Original U.S. Vietnam War Era AK-47 AKMS Hard Rubber Duck Training Rifle - Removed Buttstock

Regular price $295.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is 1960s Cold War / Vietnam War Era U.S. military issue AK-47 training replica rifle. The military calls these rifles Rubber Ducks. This is full size, true to weight, non-firing replica made of hard rubber, molded from an original. It has various markings stamped into the sides of the receiver, which were from the original gun that was molded, probably a Chinese variant, as used in Vietnam.

This example is in good condition, but definitely does show wear. It has been repainted several times on the stocks, and the butt stock was  probably damaged at some point, and then sawed off. This gives it much more of an AKMS profile, which is the version of the AK-47 with the folding butt stock. The original steel support rod can be seen in the cut, and also sticks out the front of the rubber duck a bit. The steel rod helped prevent these training aids from breaking too easily.

These were used for training by the military so they would not ruin a real rifle and as a safety precaution to prevent accidental discharges. It measures 25 inches long, and is in very good condition. The rubber is solid and is very detailed without any cracks or splitting, aside from the removed butt stock. Ready to hang on your wall and display!

The AK-47, officially known as the Avtomat Kalashnikova (Russian: Автома́т Кала́шникова, tr. Avtomát Kaláshnikova, lit. Kalashnikov's Automatic Rifle; also known as the Kalashnikov and AK), is a gas-operated, 7.62×39mm assault rifle, developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov. It is the originating firearm of the Kalashnikov rifle (or "AK") family, and saw extensive use during the Vietnam War.

Design work on the AK-47 began in 1945. In 1946, the AK-47 was presented for official military trials, and in 1948, the fixed-stock version was introduced into active service with selected units of the Soviet Army. An early development of the design was the AKS (S—Skladnoy or "folding"), which was equipped with an under-folding metal shoulder stock. In early 1949, the AK-47 was officially accepted by the Soviet Armed Forces and used by the majority of the member states of the Warsaw Pact.

Even after almost seven decades, the model and its variants remain the most popular and widely used assault rifles in the world because of their substantial reliability under harsh conditions, low production costs compared to contemporary Western weapons, availability in virtually every geographic region and ease of use. The AK-47 has been manufactured in many countries and has seen service with armed forces as well as irregular forces and insurgencies worldwide, and was the basis for developing many other types of individual, crew-served and specialized firearms. As of 2004, "Of the estimated 500 million firearms worldwide, approximately 100 million belong to the Kalashnikov family, three-quarters of which are AK-47s"
