Original European Continental Double Barrel Pocket Percussion Pistol - Circa 1840

Item Description

Original Item: Only one available. We just received this lovely Antique pistol, along with about 200 other guns, from a collection that sat in an attic for close to 100 years. This small self defense pistols utilizing two barrels was produced in the 1830/1840 era. These were shipped all over the World as they provided excellent defense. Having the second shot made any Ruffian think twice once the warning shot was fired knowing the second was not likely to miss. These were inexpensive little pistols well made most likely in Liege, Belgium which, on the Continent, was a very major armament center.

This example has screw-off 3" smoothbore barrels set side by side using two hammers and two triggers to operate. Both barrels are unfortunately frozen and cannot be unscrewed after a century of storage. The butt is plain walnut and is fitted with a small metal oval for initials of the Owner. The hammer on the left hand side was damaged at some time but was repaired leaving evidence of the repair.

Measuring about 8" overall, this would have fit nicely in the great Overcoat pockets of the period. All cleaned and ready to display!
