Original Item. Only One Available. Signed RICHARDS on the back action lock plate, this probably indicates William Richards of Birmingham England, who took out his patents for the percussion system in 1821. His full name was William Westley Richards, and he ran a BIRMINGHAM factory that became a national Institution before the end of the Victorian Era.
Dating from about 1840 this fowling piece was very standard for the time and vast quantities of this type were exported all over the World. The gun is about 16 bore and is half stocked. It has all steel mounts and the 34" part round, part Octagonal barrel bears British Proof Marks from Birmingham. The throat pipe to hold the ram rod together with the barrel rib on which the ram rod lays are completely absent. However a shortened wood ram rod is present and came to us in the gun.
Once a quality sporting gun that has now lain in storage un-cared for almost 100 years, offered as we got it with its action in working order.
