Item Description

Original item. Only One Available. Dating to approximately 1700, this is an iron mounted Holster Pistol with a 13 1/2" barrel, giving the pistol an overall length of 20 1/2". It features a rounded flintlock hammer, which were obsoleted by style in French Gun design about 1710. There is a grotesque mask on the iron butt cap, with long spurs either side. The open work lock side plate the stock is carefully carved and sculpted. Complete with early style lock mechanism and with iron tipped long ram rod. The lock is marked:

Jean Favre of Sedan, a city in north east France, was the grandfather of Jean Batiste Favre, who worked at St. Etienne in 1786.
