Original U.S. WWII Navy USN USMC Mae West Inflatable Life Preserver Vest Dated 1945 - As Seen In Book

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This very U.S. Navy Life Vest is featured on page 55 in the book U.S. Navy Uniforms in World War II Series: Weapons, Equipment, Insignia: Submarine Service, PT Boats, Coast Guard, Other Sea Services, Volume 6 by Jeff Warner. In fact this piece was purchased by IMA from the estate of Mr. Warner along with much of his personal collection.

Inflatable life preservers were also designed for use on board ship. These were similar to the "Mae West" type of preservers used by aviation personnel in aircraft. This design was particularly well suited for use on submarines due to less space required for their storage. (J. Warner)
