Original British WWII Air Ministry Marked R.A.F. Stopwatch for Bombing Raids over Germany - dated 1943

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. In full working order, this is an R.A.F. Stopwatch, of the type that was used on bombing raids over Germany during WWII. The face is marked:

SMITHS
1/100 TH. MIN.
MADE IN ENGLAND

The casing looks to be nickel or chrome plated and the watch is somewhat interesting in that it divides the minute into 100ths, and not into seconds. This most likely made calculations faster using the stop watch, as they did not have to do the extra math. It also has a separate slider between marks STOP and GO. The winder is also a button that resets the stopwatch to zero, however if the slider is in the "GO" position, it will simply keep going. Definitely not the typical system most are used to using. The case has some very nice markings on the reverse:

A.M.
6B/221
15539/43

A.M. stands for Air Ministry, with the other numbers being the specification number and serial number. The final "43" for the year of supply (1943).

Just like you see in the movies, the real thing and still in full working condition. Ready to use or display!
