Original British Victorian Boer War Era Royal Canadian Artillery Officers Leather Belt

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Straight out of an old collection! This is an original WWI Officer's Leather Belt, most likely for holding a sword, issued and marked to the ROYAL CANADIAN ARTILLERY on the belt buckle. This is written in a circle around the VRI royal cypher of Queen Victoria, under the correct Queen's Crown. This indicates that it was produced after 1876, when Victoria became Empress of India. Research of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery shows that their main service to the empire during the late Victorian period was during the 2nd Boer War in South Africa, which took place 1899-1902.

The belt measures approximately 30 inches from buckle to clip, not counting the extension. It definitely could be extended longer, however the leather is somewhat fragile, so we have left it in this short configuration. It is all brass fit, and definitely looks to be a sword belt, however the first strap is missing the buckle end, and the longer strap has torn off. It does still have usual hook next to one hanger, for holding the sword vertical when needed.

A lovely old belt, well over 100 years of age. Ready to display!
