Original Imperial German Late 19th Century Hussar Regiment Visor Cap

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of an Imperial German Hussars Visor Cap (Schirmmütze), in the late 19th century colors. The cap constructed of a Ponceaurot (poppy red) crown, and a goldgelb (Golden yellow) velvet cap band. The Cavalry regiments, such as Hussars, had a very proud and storied history, so each had different colors for their visor caps. We unfortunately have not been able to identify which precise Hussar Regiment this example comes from, and leave it as an interesting research opportunity.

The cap unfortunately no longer has the cockades that would have been able to help in identification, though there definitely are signs that they were there at one point. The front visor looks to be made of pressed paper or vulcanfibre, and the interior is lined with brown rayon, with a leather sweatband. There is no maker marking that we can see, but it was most likely bespoke, so often there wouldn't have been one. It is marked A S on the inside crown, but this does not seem to have any significance that we are aware of. Size is approximately a US 7 (56cm).

Condition is good but definitely shows wear. The sweatband is in very delicate condition, and is missing many pieces.

Quite attractive and ready to display!
