Original Greek M-1874/1903 Gras Type Bayonet for the M1903 Mannlicher Rifle by Waffenfabrik Steyr - dated 1885

Item Description

Original Item. Only one Available. These are extremely scarce and hard to find, especially in unaltered condition! This is a Greek Bayonet for the M1903 Mannlicher rifle, with a design very much based on the French M-1874 Gras Bayonet. The Greek army has used the Gras extensively, and when they put the new M1903 rifle into service, existing bayonets were modified to fit. The bayonet is in very good shape, and still retains the original hooked quillon for stacking the rifles.

It is marked clearly on the spine with Waffenfabrik Steyr 1885.. Österreichische Waffenfabriksgesellschaft, (ŒWG, Austrian Arms-Manufacturing Company), also commonly referred to as Steyr Werke, is a legendary arms producer that still exists today. Steyr is an Austrian City just outside Vienna and at the time was the home of the entire Austrian arms production.

The bayonet has a 20 1/2" T-Backed blade, with an overall length of 25 1/4”. Overall it is very much in the style of the French 1874 Gras bayonet, even down to the brass offset grip with wooden grip panels. Please see Watts & White’s fine work THE BAYONET BOOK, Page 184, item 413.

In very good condition, ready to display!
