Item Description
Original Item: One of a Kind. This is an exceptionally nice example of a Dutch Classic! Here we have a great example of a Werder Flintlock pistol, with double “turnover” barrels, each with its own pan and frizzen attached. A very interesting take on the “over and under” idea. The double barrels and lock are very nicely engraved with scrollwork. (add something) The pistol is also signed vertically on the rear lock plate behind the hammer with W and then MASTRECK, which very probably is for CHRISTOF WENNER of MAASRTRICHT, who worked from 1675 until 1715.
The pistol features double “Turnover” barrels measuring 12 1/2", the pistol measuring 20 1/2" in overall length. Iron mounts are also partially engraved, depressing the trigger in front of the traditional trigger guard allows the barrels to be hand turned in rotation. This pistol comes with its iron tipped wood ramrod in place and has TWO tang screws rising from below.
The weapon is in just fabulous condition, polished bright as the day it was made showing a very solid Walnut stock in just perfect condition. Iron side plate showing Sea Serpent in open work. Circa 1680 with NO Pan REINFORCEMENT ARM to the frizzen pivot. Lock functions perfectly, holding at half cock, and firing at full.
This has been a part of company director Christian Cranmer’s personal collection for probably 30 years, but time flies and as they say "You can not take it with you." A real peach, ready to display!
