Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of the standard WWII issue Japanese Type 92 field telephone in its original wooden case. The telephone is complete with its handset, speaking piece, crescent wrench (spanner), and the often missing crank handle. The spare speakers are both present in the cup on the bottom lid, however the small loop handled screwdriver is unfortunately missing. The Wood case is sound, showing normal age and wear, with a data plate on the front cover. The lid locks in position properly, and the front portion of the body will unlock and pivot forward, revealing the internals for maintenance and battery replacement.
The data plate and schematics on the inside of the top lid are still fully intact, and indicate on the far right that it is a 九二式電話機 (Type 92 telephone). There has been a bit of oxidation on the data plate, so some of the instructions are a bit unclear. The front of the case also has a date plate giving the maker information and a production date, written right to left on the middle line: 月 二 十 年 二 十 和 昭. This translates to Showa Era, 12th Year, 12th Month, or December of 1937. Under this is serial NO 20641.
The wires all appear to be intact, though the ends may have come loose from their terminals due to mechanical stress. The insulation is a bit stained and frayed, and we cannot guarantee that the unit is still functional. There is some light corrosion around the bottom and top, where the alloy fittings contact the wood. Some of the wood joints are also loose, due to the wood shrinking and screw holes stripping out.
We've had several examples of these over the years, and this is definitely one of the nicer condition ones. Ready to add to your collection and display!
