Original WWII Japanese Type 10/89 Training Grenade Discharger Knee Mortar - Inert

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Available. These are extremely rare, and this is the first example we have seen of a Japanese Trainer Type 10/89 Knee Mortar! It is totally non-functional and inert as defined by the BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives).

The Japanese Type 10 grenade discharger (十年式擲弾筒 Juu-nen-shiki tekidantō) and Type 89 Grenade discharger (八九式重擲弾筒 Hachikyū-shiki jū-tekidantō) were both inaccurately and colloquially known as "knee mortars" by Allied forces. They were Japanese grenade launchers or light mortars that were widely used during WWII. In reality, discharging a mortar with this on your leg would probably break it, but the name stuck.

This is a training aid version of the "Knee Mortar", and it is very well made, with a ribbed texture barrel that has slight lip at the top, just like the originals it is based on. We are not sure whether it is a Japanese training aid or possibly a U.S. training aid, but it is definitely military production, and quite rare. It is in great shape, and ready to go into any WWII collection, or maybe even out to reenactments!
