Original WWII Imperial Japanese Navy 80ft 2 Man Submarine Torpedo Tube Door Brass Plaque - USGI Bring Back

Item Description

Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a fantastic piece of Imperial Japanese Navy militaria, brought back by a USGI after the war. The back of the brass plate looks to be tin or lead plated, and the person who captured it scratched the following into the back:

FEb 5 1945
TORPEDO TUBE
JAP 80 FT
2 MAN SUB

The plate itself is marked what we believe to be 射出筒 on the top, which translates to "injection tube" or something similar. We are not quite sure on the first character. Unfortunately the other characters we cannot translate at all. There is a large 73 in the middle, to the right of a Japanese character. At the bottom it is marked 昭 和 [ ] 年 [ ] 月, with blanks where the year and month numbers would go, which are blank, either never stamped or worn away. There are two more characters further to the right of these.

We have seen other examples of these bring back items, and they are definitely hard to come by. It measures about 5" x 3" and is 1/8" inch thick.

A great piece of Japanese Imperial Navy Militaria, ready to research and display!
