Original WWI Imperial Russian M-1905/1910 Maxim Smooth Jacket Display gun with 1916 Dated Sokolov Mount

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. One of our very last and our very best! This superb original WWII issue Russian M-1910 Maxim was built to BATF approved specs using one of our all original WWII stunning parts sets assembled on our BATF approved steel dummy receiver incorporating most internal parts. The top cover still opens, showing the deactivated internals. The operating level can also cycle back and forth, and the sight and other controls are still fully functional.

Features of this display gun include-

- All original WWI and Pre-WW1 issue MG parts.
- Newly made BATF approved side plate.
- Original M1905/1910 Transitional Smooth Steel water jacket with brass ends.
- Very early back sight with circular elevation knob which measured in
"ARSHINS", later model used a more simplified MG 08 type back sight graduated in meters.

- 1916 dated excellent condition early brass and steel sokolov wheeled mount with piano shaped functional lock box. Mount also features the rarely seen hinge lock, to prevent it from folding up inadvertently. Mount is of the earliest type we have encountered in that it originally had two folding front legs that were officially removed. The rotating cross head is mostly all brass and bears multiple numerical markings. Much of the paint has been removed from the brass so these markings are very evident.

This gun must have led a romantic existence serving in the Imperial Russian Army, maybe at a Palace or Government building. It saw service in WW1, went through the Revolution and was again used in the 1939 invasion of Finland where it was captured. It remained in the hands of the Finnish Army and was re-dated for Finnish Inventory records on the top cover 1942, which now reads KORJ.1942, and also has several "SA" markings.

It stayed in Finland until it was then acquired as part of the 1,250 maxim guns we purchased in 1996 from the Finnish Government. In this group were other rare birds such as this one. One of the very rare earliest variations of Hiram Maxim's Russian Water Cooled Machineguns introduced at the later half of 1905. Known by its smooth water jacket constructed from steel with brass facings, and called the M-1905/1910 model, which superseded the M-1905 massively heavy and expensive, all brass water jacket, only made during the first year of production. As these weapons were always painted modern Collector's did not discover this steel/brass variety until the release of captured Russian Maxim Guns from Finland in 1996.

Very decorative, very historical from a "Fallen Imperial Empire" and will polish up to be every man's fantasy; straight out of "Dr. Zivago"!

The PM M1910 (Пулемёт Максима образца 1910 года на колёсном станке А.А. Соколова образца 1910 года,  Pulemot Maksima obraztsa 1910 goda na kolosnom stanke A.A. Sokolova obraztsa 1910 goda) or "Maxim's machine gun model 1910 on Sokolov's model 1910 mount was a heavy machine gun used by the Russian Army during World War I and the Red Army during World War II. It was adopted in 1910 and was derived from Hiram Maxim's Maxim gun, chambered for the standard Russian 7.62x54mmR rifle cartridge. The M1910 was mounted on a wheeled mount (Sokolov) with a gun shield and was replaced in Soviet service by the SG-43 Goryunov, starting in 1943. In addition to the main infantry version, there were aircraft mounted (PV-1) and naval variants.

Again, this is among the nicest M1905/1910s we have offered and certainly one the very last we have.
