Original Italian WWI B.P.D. Hand Grenade with Zinc Fuze Screw Cover - Inert

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Just purchased from a private collection! Offered in excellent condition with original paint, inert internal components, and even the original zinc screw cap! It's very rare to see an Italian BPD grenade in this nice and complete condition. It has been deactivated to be completely inert according to BATF guidelines.

The Italian WWI BPD Grenade was mostly used on the Austro-Italian front during WWI, where most examples have been found. The BPD has a cylindrical cast body with a threaded cover on the top. This cover protects the fuze, which had to be struck to a hard surface to ignite the delay. The grenade was filled with explosives, with a guncotton core to distribute the ignition.

This example is in great shape, with the original Zinc fuse cover, which still unscrews to show the internal fuze structure. The top of the grenade also unscrews to show the inside of the body. The internals are a bit rusty, due to age and also reactions from the explosives and propellant, but part of the wick on the top cover is still visible! A very nice example of a rare WWI Italian grenade, ready to display!
