Original German WWII Inert Rubber & Wood Movie Prop M24 Stick Grenade - Stielhandgranate

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is great rubber & wood movie prop M1924, M24, or "Stielhandgranate (stalk hand grenade) 24" German Stick Grenade, often called a "potato masher". It is totally inert, and has no ability to be made into any type of explosive device. It is clearly a high grade replica, made of foam rubber cast around a wooden handle, and then painted with the correct colors. While it does not have the correct holes in the bottom of the warhead, it does have German WWII smoke grenade Nb.Hgr.39 markings on it, complete with the correct white lines.

Condition is quite good, though there is a chunk missing from the warhead, and it is starting to detach a bit from the handle. There are signs of a previous rubber cement repair, and it most likely could easily be repaired.

A wonderful display item, offered at a fraction of the cost of the real thing.

In WWII the stick of the German M24 (Model 24) grenade provided a lever, significantly improving the throwing distance. The Model 24 could be thrown approximately 30 to 40 yards, whereas the British Mills bomb could only be thrown about 15 yards. The design also minimized the risk of the grenade rolling downhill back towards the thrower when used in hilly terrain or in urban areas. These grenades were extremely useful for clearing out entrenched infantry positions.

As grenades were disposable, encountering them on the market is very rare, especially with the original pull string and weight, making this an excellent opportunity to acquire one to complete a WWII ordnance collection.
