Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of the Percussion Carbines issued to the Colonial Constabulary during the Victorian Era of the British Empire. The design is similar to the EIC type carbines, featuring a side action percussion lock, and a "captured" ramrod that could easily be used on horseback without worrying it would be dropped.
The carbine features a lovely wood stock, which is checkered around the wrist, and in lovely condition. It features the standard all brass fittings of butt plate, trigger guard, nose cap, and a single ramrod pipe. Moving the ramrod out reveals the name R. PRICE, the maker of the stock. The barrel and lock are for the most part unmarked, though there are some faded proof marks on both. The lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full.
The carbine comes with a brass handled short sword style bayonet, typical of the type issued to Colonial Constabularies. This type also was utilized with some patterns of Royal Irish Constabulary carbines during the mid 19th century. Based on the Brunswick bayonet, it is very nice looking, and in great shape. It has an intact thick blade washer, locks on securely, and comes complete with its brass mounted leather scabbard. As with the Carbine, it is unmarked.
Both the carbine and bayonet are in very good condition, and quite attractive. This will make a fine addition to any Victorian British collection!
