Original U.S. WWII USAAF Imperial Folding Survival Machete Type A-1 with Scabbard & Whetstone
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a great example of a World War II U.S. Army Air Force Type A-1 folding machete survival knife. These were manufactured by Imperial Knife Co. Providence RI. as stamped on left ricasso: IMPERIAL / PROV. R.I.. Adopted by the US Military in 1942 for the B-4 emergency bail out kit usually attached to the parachute harness. The machete has checkered black plastic grip panels and a blued steel blade. There is a guard system built into machete that when closed, the metal guard protects the blade. When open, the guard flips closed to lock the blade in place with a small thumb button, which must be pushed back to the release the guard and close the blade.
The blade on this example is in very good condition, with the original shape well retained, and no edge nicks or chips. It has been sharpened several times and cleaned, which has worn the original blued finish, except on the ricasso. The blade guard is in excellent condition, showing no real damage or oxidation. The grips are in very good shape, showing minimal wear, though there is a stress crack running across the lower right scale running from one of the securing rivets.
The Folding Machete comes with an original sharpening stone and white / gray colored leather scabbard with flap and belt loop. It is marked MACHETE WITH SHEATH / TYPE A-1 / NO. 48C3639. on the front. The scabbard and sharpening stone are in used but very good condition. There is some staining on the exterior of the scabbard, but the swivel on the belt loop is still functional, and all stitching is intact.
A great chance to add a hard to find survival tool to your collection!
