Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very interesting example of an original trench fighting knife, made very much in the style of a "hunting" knife. Instead of the usual ribbed wooden handle, it is fitted with an embossed steel handle, patterned to look like it is made from stag horn. The "s-shaped" crossguard is also a bit more ornate than typical, however the blade shape is typical. It comes complete with a scabbard, though it has lost the belt loop.
The knife has a single edged dagger blade of 5 3/4 inches, with an unsharpened drop-point false edge on the top of the blade. Overall length is 10 1/2 inches. The blade has seen much use and has been reprofiled to look almost like a filet or boning knife. It is still relatively sharp, and should be handled with care. The knife is in very good used condition, with a lovely look that is only attained from real field use.
The blade is marked on the ricasso with the double trademark "Knights's Helmet" (Ritter-helm) alongside a "Kings's Head" (königskopf) logo of legendary German maker Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie of Solingen. This trademark is used on privately purchased blades in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is absolutely correct for this hunting knife. For more information please see J. The knife comes in an genuine rolled steel World War One scabbard, which also shows use. It has had the leather belt loop break off, with just the securing strap still present, which is fastened around the scabbard.
