Original British WWII S & J Kitchin Sheffield Machete Dated 1942 With Scabbard Dated 1944

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. A fine example of a WWII British Issue Machete with scabbard! These are almost completely identical to the WWI issue machetes, but they have become increasingly difficult to find, and when you though you found one, you usually see WWII dates on them, just like this example.

The machete is in very good condition, especially considering its age. The blade has the original blackened finish in places, with an edge that appears to have much post-factory sharpening and grinding. The blade is no longer marked with the maker logo for the firm of Samuel Kitchin, which is a coiled snake. The marking below is still present and reads S&J KITCHIN LTD. Below the logo is marked “Sheffield”, with the date to the right “1942” below the British Broadarrow acceptance stamp. The grip scales, which are made of what appears to be bakelite, are not marked and in good condition.

The scabbard is of leather with an artificial grain pattern, with a piece of buff leather secured to the throat by the means of three tinned copper rivets. The original clouse tab is intact, and not broken. The scabbard is marked “J.B. BROOKS & CO LTD”, with 1944 beneath it. The reverse of the belt loop is also broadarrow inspector proofed, with the inspector number “103”.

A fantastic addition to a WW2 British, or edged weapon collection! Ready for display!
