Item Description
Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is something that we have definitely never seen before, and it took us some time to figure out. We are still not exactly sure what era it is, but it is definitely of high quality construction, and is very attractive.
From what we can tell, it is a Japanese WWII Era Eagle "Gift" flag, probably from the immediate post war era. This piece is composed of hand painted cloth (probably rayon) and features the message “congratulations” (祝) in red with the recipient’s name present along the right side of the flag, read top to bottom. The piece features an eagle with an olive branch swooping above a star and wave patterning which is similar to some of the symbolism used in the Japanese Air Self Defense Force during the early post war years. There is also a cloud motif above the eagle.
Portions of the eagle and the star have had some type of glitter glued on, to highlight certain areas. It looks to be finely flaked Mica mineral, and is expertly executed. There is some running of the colors, so it looks as though it did suffer some water exposure at some time.
